Peggy Rathmann

Caldecott medalist Peggy Rathman made a splash with her debut book, Ruby the Copycat, which spurred booksellers to call her “the most promising author of 1991” in Publisher´s Weekly’s annual Cuffie Awards. Booklist praised her illustrations in Bootsie Barker Bites (1992) as “very expressive… reminiscent of Sendak’s early work”. In 1996 she won a Caldecott Medal for Officer Buckle and Gloria. An inveterate mischief-maker and animal lover, Ms. Rathman lives in San Francisco with her poodle slippers and an enormous rubber iguana, but no gorilla (as far as she knows).
