Ana Maria Machado
She’s a well-known Latin American children’s and young people’s author. Born in Rio de Janeiro, she studied Language and Literature in Brazil, France and Italy. She worked for many years as a university professor in Europe and Brazil and is also a recognized critic of children’s literature and theatre. In 2000 she received the Hans Christian Andersen award, the highest international acclaim for work as a children’s author and illustrator.
